Public Works Home

The City of Colfax operates a water system that serves approximately 20 miles of main line and 1,130 connections for 2,880 people. Four wells provide groundwater to the water system and five reservoirs provide storage for 2.4 million gallons of water.

The City of Colfax Water Department takes pride in providing quality drinking water to our community.

Water Fund

This fund provides for the operation and maintenance of the city's water system and expenditures go to the water pumps, distribution system piping, disinfection chemicals and equipment, building and grounds maintenance and water testing fees. In addition, funds are transferred from the Water Fund to Water/Sewer Capital Outlay, Equipment Replacement and the Public Works Debt Fund. Revenues are generated from user fees based on actual water consumption.

Water Service Line Fund

Water Service Line Fund: This fund provides for maintenance of individual service lines that lie within public right-of-way. The fund was established in 1976 to alleviate the financial burden borne by homeowners in replacing leaking service lines. In 1993, property owners were given the choice to pay $300 into the fund up front or to spread out payment at $3.33 per month for ten years. Currently, enrollment is by lump sum payment only and is paid prior to installation of a new water service line..
